What Is Sex & Relationship Coaching?

For most of human history, the concept of Sex & Relationship Coaching was basically non-existent.  Even in the realms of psychology and psychotherapy, the specific topic of Sex was not something most counselors or therapists were comfortable talking about.  This was largely due to cultural and religious biases that existed within our world.  However, this all began to change in the 1950s when Alfred Kinsey founded The Institute For Sex Research at Indiana University and in the 1960s when William Masters and Virginia Johnson begin observing and analyzing couples during live sex sessions conducted in their laboratory.  Even with this groundbreaking research breaking through cultural boundaries, our society has still been slow to adopt more progressive forms of Sex & Relationship Coaching. By the 1980s, people started to become more comfortable discussing intimate sex and relationship issues.  However, it also became increasingly clear that our traditional licensed professionals (including most psychiatrists, psychologists and medical doctors) were not really trained or equipped to deal with the many complex issues that people experience as part of their sex life and sexual relationships. Most of these issues did not require psychotherapy or medical intervention.  Instead, what was really needed was a more experiential approach.  While this certainly would involve some talk-based therapy (discussing the specific issues and potential solutions)… it also requires working with someone with a substantial amount of experience in these specific areas.  This type of experiential sex coach should also be comfortable guiding you through specific practice routines and scenarios.  Our clients have repeatedly told us that they learn more in just a few minutes during these real-world practice sessions then they have with hours, weeks or months of strictly talk-based therapy.

A Deeper, More Intimate Approach

Sex & Relationship Coaching can go beyond the limits of traditional therapy to help clients learn and explore new, exciting and more pleasurable experiences. Because sex has been so shamed by our culture and religious institutions and there is so little quality education available in this subject area, most people are going through life with very little education and knowledge about sex and relationships. A well-trained and experienced sex coach has taken the time to learn the keys to an amazing sex life – and they probably aren’t what you think. The information about sex found in traditional media and on the internet can be very difficult to sort through. So much of it is just plain bad advice. For example – hot tips from a magazine might tell you that your sexless marriage can be solved with a date night, some new sex toys, or a vacation in the tropics. While any of these may be helpful, at least temporarily, it is only because they might align with one of your deeper desires. To really get to the bottom of what you want and create lasting changes in your relationship to your sexuality and with your partner, there is often deeper, more nuanced exploration necessary. Tackling this journey is much more efficient with an experienced sex coach on your side. Think about it – if you want to get a sculpted body, you hire a personal trainer. If you want your marketing to be better, you hire a marketing consultant. If you want to be a great lover, why wouldn’t you hire a sex coach?

I spent 30 years in a sexless marriage and I had pretty much given up on the idea of having a sex life.  Mikka has totally changed my perspective and is teaching me so many things about myself that I just didn’t know.

I always thought I was a decent lover.  But after my session with Mikka it is clear I still have a great deal to learn… and I can’t think of anyone I’d rather learn from than Mikka.

WOW! I am just amazed at the things Knox has taught me.  I wish I had met him about 20 years ago.  My life and relationships would have been so different had I known him back then.
